| Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship |
|
Pfc. Norman Michael “Ehren” Murburg, a graduate of Pasco High School in Dade City, Florida, pledged Florida Upsilon in Fall 2005 and lived in the chapter house for three semesters. After his sophomore year, he left the University of Florida to pursue his life-long dream of serving his country as a member of the Special Forces. Ehren rose to the top of his class, completing both the U.S. Army’s Basic Training and Airborne School. In the summer of 2008, he began training at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Training Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina to fulfill his goal of becoming a Green Beret. On June 9, 2008, Ehren tragically lost his life at the age of 20 in a Special Forces training exercise. To honor our brother and his commitment to serving of our country, SAE has created The Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship Initiative. This memorial scholarship will provide the dual purpose of 1) eternally memorializing our fallen brother and 2) providing financial support for returning Veterans to pursue their academic endeavors at the University of Florida. The Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship will be created under the State of Florida’s Veteran’s Bridge Scholarship Program. This scholarship program was established by SAE alumnus General John Le Moyne (Class of 1967) to address and alleviate the financial burdens placed on Veterans returning to college. SAE’s goal is to raise $15,000 to create the named scholarship in honor of our brother. Our $15,000 will be state-matched to create a permanent Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship Endowment of $30,000. From this endowment, the Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship will each year award $1,500 to one returning Veteran to pay for the recipient’s first semester tuition and books. To meet our goal of raising $15,000, SAE hopes to raise $5,000 from SAE’s 8th annual Cajun Cookout Philanthropy, $5,000 from active brothers, and $5,000 from alumni. Donations are tax-deductible. You may make a secure credit or debit card donation by clicking the “Donate” button below. If you would like to donate by check, please write it to: “SFC Foundation, Veterans Bridge Scholarship”, for: “Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship”, and mail to 10 SW 23rd Way, Gainesville, FL 32607. Thank you very much for your donation and support. Phi Alpha, The Brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Florida Upsilon Chapter
