Cajun Cookout

On the evening of April 16, 2010, from 5:00-8:00, the brothera of Sigma Alpha Epsilon will be hosting the 9th Annual Cajun Cookout Philanthropy.  Our goal is to bring the spirit of flavor of New Orleans to the ΣΑΕ house, with an all-you-can-eat buffet of oysters, crawfish, jambalaya, and more. A live band will be performing all night long, with a brother auction and oyster-eating race concluding the evening, and all in the name of a good cause.

This year's Cajun Cookout will benefit the Florida Opportunity Scholarship. Florida Opportunity Scholarship are designed to ensure that those who meet eligibility requirements will not have to work or take out loans, but rather have their needs fully met through grants and scholarships. Cajun Cookout will also continue to supplement the Ehren Murburg Scholarship in honor of our fallen brother. The Scholarship is a part of the state of Florida's Veteran's Bridge Scholarship Program, providing financial support for returning veterans to pursue higher education at the University of Florida.

In 2009, under the chairmanship of Doug Holder, Cajun Cookout set record high in attendance and donations. ΣΑΕ raised $6,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida and $6,000 for the Ehren Murburg Memorial Scholarship, with over 800 attendees. Due to the success of the evening Cajun Cookout was named the Philanthropy of the Year 2009 by the Interfraternity Council. A thanks to last year's winners, the ladies of Delta Gamma, and the runner up, the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as the sponsors, families and everyone in attendance. Without your help and support none of this would be possible.

Social Events
One of the greatest aspects to the fraternity experience is the growth of an individual socially. Whether it be sharing stories with alumni, hanging with a brother, or having a social event with one of Florida’s finest sororities, SAE constantly tries to provide its members with the most opportune environment to meet and connect with others. Every semester we have five socials with a sorority, along with grab-a-dates, Woodsers, and band parties. This upcoming fall, we will be having a cookout and game day party for home games along with a Fraternity Roadtrip to Alabama to cheer on our Florida Gators against the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the spring we also have a number of different social activities. These events include our Paddy Murphy Formal, Savannah Semi-Formal, and our “Get Wet” pool party.

If you have any questions regarding social events please contact our Social Chair:
